Welcome to Silver Birch…this is us!
Silver Birch have now been joined across the landing with Beech class all thanks to the new classroom being built. It is all very exciting and everyone is loving the new look.
There are 29 of us in Silver Birch this year – 19 year 5 and 10 year 6.
Autumn Term is always busy and this term was no different. We had had a Roald Dahl Day, learnt about Enid Blyton and embarked upon the stories from Charles Dickens. Our topic was Victorians and the children learnt just how grateful we must be to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for the many customs we enjoy at Christmas.
Year 5 and 6 also took part in Bikeability Week where they were trained in cycling safety and received a recognised award.
Autumn term is our start to rehearse for ‘Young Voices’ in January 2017. Whilst this seems a long way off, the amount of songs and dance movements mean an early start is essential. As soon as Harvest Festival passes, we begin in earnest. Of-course the usual Christmas carols are sung as well!

Spring Term 2017 Overview
Well it’s now Spring Term 2017 and already the school has been on their first trip of the year. We went to G-Live in Guildford to hear some ‘live’ classical music which was wonderful.
Our next music trip is of a very different kind and takes Silver Birch to the O2 in London for ‘Young Voices 2017.’ This is where we are joined by 6000 other children from around Britain to come together and perform 9 fantastic songs from an array of musical styles.
Our topic this term is ‘Polar Regions’ and after half term ‘Mountain Regions.’ We are having a geography-focused term as last term was history-based.
Year 6 are also beginning their work towards SATs in the summer. Although tough, we work collaboratively, helping support each other.
We are also lucky to have a student teacher join our class this term. Mr Amos is a final year teaching student at Winchester University who is completing his final placement with us.
Here’s to a great term everyone!
