Our Curriculum

Our school is organised into three mixed age classes currently as follows

image One
Robins

Children in Reception and Year 1 are in Robins Class. Their day is full of opportunities for first hand learning.

image Two
Kookaburras

Children in Year 2 and Year 3 are in Kookaburras Class.

image Three
Eagles

Children in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 are in Eagles Class.

We are delighted that there is plenty of research evidence which confirms out positive view of this arrangement.

Our class sizes are small and we also make full use of our teaching support staff so that every child receives some individual attention on a daily basis. Children have very good attitudes towards their work.

Our teachers are highly skilled at differentiation – a key skill for teaching success, whatever type of class

The teaching staff base their approach and target setting on the child’s prior attainment rather than simply their age.  Assessing pupil progress (APP) is easier to do because we know our children really well. This enables all pupils to make good progress.

Our older children benefit greatly from the opportunity to become an ‘expert’ for younger children to learn from. Many educationalists believe that this can nurture thinking skills, problem solving skills, vocabulary and other social competencies.

There is a ‘family’ atmosphere within our classes that mirrors the home setting with younger/older siblings. There is great sense of cooperation and all our pupils behave responsibly and with consideration.

The long-term close relationship between pupils and teachers allows for a closer match of the learning to the child and a greater commitment by both the child and the teacher to each other. This in turn helps with closely focussed learning.

We have a very close partnership with our parents. Often these are less formal and more productive. Many parents have thanked us for keeping them informed of their child’s progress.
