What do we do in Art?

At Binsted we believe that the teaching of art is important because it contributes to the development of the whole child emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially, creating in the child a sense of enjoyment and purpose.  It provides pupils with a unique way of perceiving themselves and the world, which is not taught in other areas of the curriculum and which is essential to basic education.

During art lessons we aim firstly to ensure that children enjoy art and are able to feel a sense of achievement in all activities.  We then provide children with opportunities to express themselves in emotional terms through their art experiences whilst studying and recording both man-made and natural phenomena.  They develop their knowledge of materials by experimenting and being taught specific skills throughout the year groups.  The work of other artists, crafts people and designers is explored to give ideas and inspiration, and opportunities are given to study historical, cultural and religious art.

We have also run extension groups for our talented artists and some of them have had the opportunity to join others when this has been presented to us.
