Last day of term
On the 8th of October 2011, year 6’s from Binsted School got up very early in the morning.
We got dressed and fed and then got into our cars and drove to Bentley School. There we met up with other year 6’s. The coach arrived at 6.10 a.m. and we all boarded it, children and a couple of adventurous parents. Our journey to France had begun.
We arrived at Folkstone at about 8.15 a.m., we bought some drinks and watched rugby on the TV that was in the canteen. We got on our coach again at about 8.45. We drove onto the euro train which would be taking us under the sea to France. It began to feel very hot in the coach as we couldn’t have the air-con on and we only had two air vents.
We finally arrived in Calais after a tiring journey. We drove through beautiful countryside to the boulangerie. We parked the coach and walked up the hill to what looked like a type of house, it turned out to actually be the boulangerie. A lady took us in and told us,in French, how long it took us to bake the bread. She cut the dough using a mechanical slicer, and gave each of us a piece. We shaped it and when the other group came in she put it in a box so the other group could use it.
We then went in to the other part of the building where we made croissants. When we went in the man that was going to teach us had a big stick that he slammed on the table to scare us!! He was very funny.
Near the end he rolled out a long piece of pastry that he cut down the middle and into triangles. Children from Binsted and Bentley were then allowed to take triangles and make them into croissants. When we had finished we all went outside and we were given chocolate croissants. We said goodbye and went back to the coach and drove off to Boulogne. We arrived at approximately 2pm, and went to our restaurant. We ate our fill of food and went outside, where we decided that we would get some berets and sweets.
We then walked up onto the ramparts of the walled town. We saw the town from up there it was a beautiful view, we could even see the sea! We walked back to our coach where we drove to the hypermarket. It was an enormous shop with everything in it. We bought more sweets and the parents bought what they wanted. After we had paid we returned to the coach and chatted about what a wonderful day we had had. We boarded the Euro train at Calais, and had a hot tiring journey home.
All in all it was a great day out!
