In road safety we learnt that if you don’t have a seat belt on and there’s a crash the power of the impact makes you six times your own body weight which pushes you though the windscreen.
This has told us more about car safety.
We also went to fire rescue. We learnt how to check if there is fire on the other side of the door by touching the handle and one of Binsted’s own children, Robyn, showed us how to block smoke getting in through the bottom of the door. It was very exciting.
Next we did first aid. They showed us how to save someone’s life, by putting them in the recovery position. Then we had a go ourselves. We learnt how to check for dangers to us and to other people. It was fun.
Cyber safety was a moving experience and taught us how sometimes it is dangerous chatting on line. The best part was when the two men that were teaching us pretended to be 11 & 13 year old girls who were chatting on line and didn’t know who each other were.
R.N.L.I. The Royal National Lifeboat Institute. They save people everyday and don’t get paid. These are the flags and some of the rules. The black & white flag means hard stuff like sailboards but with no motors.
The red & yellow flag means swimming and soft stuff. And the red flag means DANGER! If you are out at sea and are stuck you should put your hand up but don’t WAVE it. If you spot them you should call the life guard.
The last thing we learned about was illegal alcohol and drugs. We had to guess how many people were carrying 15 cans of alcohol and beer.
We all guessed different numbers but in the end only one person was carrying 15 cans of alcohol and beer. We also learnt that you can only smoke over the age of 16 and only drink alcohol, beer and wine over the age of 18. They told us all the things that are illegal in
We interviewed one of the Year 6’s and she told us what she thought. “I thought it was a good day out and the people there were very funny but they were serious at the same time, which I liked, and we learnt so much there!” All in all we had an amazing visit to Binsted CE Primary School
